A composer of phenomenal promise who died in France aged just twenty-five from tuberculosis in the summer of 1940, having seen her homeland overrun by the Nazis in the previous year. In Prague she was a pupil of the eccentric Bohuslav Martinů, and upon moving to Paris she may have studied under the prolific Nadia Boulanger. It is tantalising to consider what seminal influences she and Lili Boulanger might have exerted on the course of twentieth century music if they had lived past the age of twenty five.
